TETRAHEDRAL META-MODEL
The Four Models as Vertices
Complete Documentation Summary (provisional) by Claude-4.5
Overview
The fifth model is a meta-framework where the four previous models themselves become vertices in a tetrahedral structure. This creates a model of models - showing how Metabolism, World Dynamics, Psychodynamics, and Knowledge Space relate to and integrate with each other.
This anticipates future 5-cell (4D) development, where a true fifth vertex (temporal/process dimension) would complete the structure. For now, this provides the tetrahedral meta-level integration.

What it represents:
- Individual psychology embodied in biology expressed through social systems
- Action without reflexivity
- Lived experience without meta-awareness
- The flow of life as immediate integration
Examples:
- Cultural practices that embody metabolic patterns without reflection
- Social movements driven by collective psychology and biological needs
- Unreflective daily life integrating all three domains
Limitation: Lacks critical/appreciative awareness - can't step back to evaluate
🔵 BLUE Circuit: INDIVIDUAL KNOWING

Path: KNOW → METAB → PSYCH
Dynamic labels: KNOW → METAB → PSYCH
What it represents:
- Epistemic stance embodied through physical process into individual psychology

- Individual intellectual development
- Hermetic traditions
- Solo inquiry
Limitation: Lacks social dimension - misses collective/systemic aspects
🟢 GREEN Circuit: SYSTEMIC KNOWLEDGE

Path: WORLD → METAB → KNOW
Dynamic labels: WORLD → METAB → KNOW
What it represents:
- Social systems embodied through physical processes into epistemology

- Abstract theory disconnected from biology
- Ideologies that ignore embodiment
- Virtual/cyber culture
Limitation: Lacks physical grounding - floats free of material constraints
CENTRAL HUB
Integration
- The point where all four domains meet
- Complete framework requires all four
- The fifth vertex (temporal/process) would transcend this center in 4D
WHY THIS META-MODEL MATTERS
1. Shows Interdomain Relationships
The four models aren't isolated frameworks - they interface through the six edges:
- Metabolism grounds psychology (embodiment)
- World systems shape individual psychology (socialization)
- Knowledge practices emerge from social systems (institutions)
- Psychology influences metabolic processes (psychosomatic)
- Etc.
2. Reveals Integration Requirements
Complete understanding requires all four domains:
- Pure biology (METAB alone): mechanistic, lifeless
- Pure sociology (WORLD alone): abstract, disembodied
- Pure psychology (PSYCH alone): isolated, asocial
- Pure epistemology (KNOW alone): without content
The circuits show three-fold integrations - useful but incomplete (missing one domain)
3. Points Toward 5-Cell Structure
The four vertices define a 3D tetrahedron but hint at 4D structure:
- The missing dimension (5th vertex) would be temporal/process/development
- Each current model would become a face in 4D structure
- The meta-model anticipates but doesn't yet realize this
4. Self-Referential Capacity
Knowledge Space as one vertex provides reflexive dimension:
- The meta-model can reflect on itself
- The Ps-Kn edge is where the model knows it's a model
- Critical/appreciative/paradoxical/meta-cognitive stances apply to the whole structure
THE FOUR CIRCUITS AS RESEARCH PROGRAMS
RED (Embodied Systems)
Disciplines: Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Embodied Cognition
Question: How do biology, psychology, and social systems integrate in practice?
Weakness: Lacks reflexivity about its own epistemology
BLUE (Individual Knowing)
Disciplines: Phenomenology, Contemplative Practices, Personal Development
Question: How does individual knowing emerge from embodied psychology?
Weakness: Ignores social/collective dimensions
GREEN (Systemic Knowledge)
Disciplines: Systems Theory, Cybernetics, Complex Systems Science
Question: How do physical and social systems generate knowledge?
Weakness: Eliminates subjective/psychological dimension
GOLD (Abstract Culture)
Disciplines: Philosophy, Cultural Theory, Semiotics
Question: How do ideas and cultural forms shape psychology through social systems?
Weakness: Disconnected from physical/biological reality
Integration: Requires moving between all four circuits as needed
APPLICATIONS
For Interdisciplinary Work
Identifies interfaces:
- Me-Wo edge: Where biology meets sociology
- Me-Ps edge: Where neuroscience meets psychology
- Wo-Ps edge: Where sociology meets psychology
- Etc.
Maps blind spots:
- RED circuit: epistemological blindness
- BLUE circuit: social blindness
- GREEN circuit: psychological blindness
- GOLD circuit: physical blindness
For This Project
Shows relationships between the four models:
- Not independent frameworks
- Interfaces are as important as domains
- Integration requires all four + reflexive capacity
For Future 5-Cell Development
This is the 3D projection:
- Four current models as vertices
- Sixth model would add temporal/process dimension
- 5-cell structure would have 5 vertices, 10 edges, 10 faces, 5 cells
- Each current tetrahedral model becomes a cell in 5-cell
LIMITATIONS OF THIS META-MODEL
Still 3D (Not Yet 4D)
⚠️ Missing temporal dimension:
- How do these domains develop over time?
- How do interfaces evolve?
- Developmental trajectories not captured
Still Static (Not Yet Dynamic)
⚠️ Missing process dimension:
- Models presented as fixed structures
- Circuits as static rather than trajectories
- No representation of change
Requires Expertise Across Domains
⚠️ Highly interdisciplinary:
- Understanding all four models is challenging
- Interfaces require multiple domain expertise
- Risk of superficial synthesis
Geometric Structure May Be Forced
⚠️ Is tetrahedral geometry natural here?
- Do four domains actually organize tetrahedrally?
- Are interfaces symmetric (probably not)?
- May impose false symmetry on asymmetric reality
CRITICAL ASSESSMENT
Strengths
✅ Shows interdomain relationships explicitly
✅ Identifies important interfaces (Me-Wo, Wo-Ps, etc.)
✅ Reveals integration requirements
✅ Points toward 4D structure
✅ Self-referential through KNOW vertex
✅ Useful heuristic for interdisciplinary work
Weaknesses
⚠️ Oversimplifies complex relationships
⚠️ Missing temporal/developmental dimension
⚠️ Geometric structure may be artificial
⚠️ Requires deep expertise to use well
⚠️ Interfaces likely more complex than edges suggest
Verdict
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong meta-framework with clear limitations. Useful for seeing interdomain relationships and pointing toward fuller 5-cell structure. Not final word but valuable intermediate step.
NEXT STEPS
For Provisional Posting
Present as:
- Exploratory meta-framework
- Shows how four models relate
- Anticipates 5-cell development
- Honest about limitations
For Document 2
Develop:
- Interface analysis (the six edges in detail)
- Blind spot mapping (what each circuit misses)
- 5-cell vision (how temporal dimension transforms this)
- Application to specific interdisciplinary problems
For Future Work
Explore:
- Is tetrahedral the right structure for these four domains?
- How do interfaces actually work in practice?
- What is the 5th vertex really (temporal? developmental? other)?
- Can this guide actual interdisciplinary research?
THE RECURSIVE STRUCTURE
Notice:
- Each of the four models is tetrahedral (4 vertices)
- The meta-model is tetrahedral (4 models as vertices)
- A 5-cell would be next level (5 vertices including temporal)
- This suggests recursive/fractal structure
Implications:
- Patterns repeat across scales
- Tetrahedral organization may be fundamental
- Or we're imposing our preferred geometry
Question for Document 2:
- Is this real structure or projection?
- Does geometry discover or construct?
- The Knowledge Space (KNOW) vertex must answer this
